There's something in the beginning of this new Sondre Lerche track that recalls the opening of New Order's "Truth Faith" or some forgotten Pet Shop Boys tune. This is a good thing. The initial sonics are cold and hard like steel on goose-bumped flesh—the very opposite of soft feelings—this then amps up to an 80s disco-glorious pop song, with Lerche singing "I've got so much love to give" (this is where said soft feelings come in, clearly). Lifted from his forthcoming record, Pleasure (out April 14th) there are many movements in this five minute song: nimble breaks, unexpected layered refrains; sometimes he's a little Scott Walker, occasionally he's a bit Sebastien Tellier. He's a modern, blue-eyed crooner with a weird side.Shot in 16mm, there's something a little cheeky about the rambling non-narrative of this video—whether the 30-something NYC-dwelling Norwegian is dancing by himself or with randoms in the street, or wandering into the ocean in his underwear and tank top. Note: there are cameos from Tom (a.k.a. How To Dress Well) and Norwegian artist Ary.
"I liked the idea of a man on the verge of an identity crisis, alone in LA," explains director Johannes Greve Muskat. "A noir-portrait of the man and the city over the course of a lost weekend of isolation and ambivalence. If the previous video, 'I'm Always Watching You,' was Rear Window, 'Soft Feelings' is Vertigo, with all its clues, symbolism and obsessiveness."Watch below and catch him on Lerche endless tour.Sondre Lerche Tour Dates01/21 Oseana – OS, Norway01/24 U1 – Blindern, Norway01/25 Sundreball – ÅL, Norway01/26 Huset - Gjovik01/27 Maskinhallen, Tou Scene – Stavanger, Norway01/28 Bakgården – Haugesund, Norway02/02 Trondheim Calling – Trondheim, Norway02/03 Terminalen - Ålesund, Norway02/04 Kompagniet – Molde, Norway02/05 Fosnavåg Konserthus - Fosnavåg, Norway02/09 Arktisk Kultursenter – Hammerfest, Norway02/10 Driv – Tromso, Norway02/11 Buen Kulturhus – Mandal, Norway02/15 Ludo – Harstad, Norway02/16 Sinus - Bodø, Norway02/18 Studenthuset City – Alta, Norway02/21 Union Scene – Drammen, Norway02/23 Narvik Kulturhus – Narvik, Norway02/24 Kooperativet - Vadsø, Norway03/03 Kick – Kristiansand, Norway03/08 Munkehaugen – Arendal, Norway03/09 Ælvespeilet – Porsgrunn, Norway03/10 Energimølla – Kongsberg, Norway03/11 Støperiet – Teie, Norway03/15 Meieriet – Sogndal, Norway03/17 Gregers – Hamar, Norway03/18 Musikkflekken – Sandvika, Norway03/24 Blå Grotte – Fredrikstad, Norway03/25 Brygga Kultursal – Halden, Norway03/29 Studentersamfunnet – As, Norway03/31 Askim Kulturhus - Askim, Norway04/12 The Sinclair -- Boston, MA04/13 The Ballroom – Hamden, CT04/14 Foundry at The Fillmore – Philadelphia, PA04/15 Bowery Ballroom – New York, NY04/17 U Street Music Hall – Washington, DC04/19 Shelter – Detroit, MI04/20 The Garrison – Toronto, ON04/21 Grog Shop – Cleveland, OH04/22 Lincoln Hall – Chicago, IL04/23 Villiage Theatre – Davenport, IA04/25 7th St Entry – Minneapolis, MN04/28 Biltmore – Vancouver, BC04/29 Columbia City Theatre – Seattle, WA04/30 Star Theatre – Portland, OR05/02 The Independent – San Francisco, CA05/04 Troubadour – Los Angeles, CA05/05 The Parish at House of Blues – Anaheim, CA05/06 The Crescent Ballroom – Phoenix, AZ05/10 Antone's – Austin,TX05/11 White Oak Music Hall- Houston, TX05/12 Club Dada- Dallas,TX05/13 One Eyed Jacks- New Orleans, LA
