Over the course of Norwegian producer Hans-Peter Lindstrøm's career, some have taken to labelling his explosive and expansive efforts as "space disco," but that image doesn't quite do justice to the style that he's brewed up over the last half decade. No, more than a placid drift through interstellar spheres, Lindstrøm has set about careening wildly through a field of concussive synthesizer arpeggios and big dumb kick drums. His new single "Closing Shot," drawn from a new, as-yet-untitled LP due out July 8, is another taste of the same. It's an eight-and-a-half minute collection as volatile as pure jet fuel that barrel rolls its way through dizzy dancefloor structures, while never losing the laser-guided precision of percussion. It's a precarious sort of combination, but Lindstrøm's always cool and calm in the face of danger. You'll want to listen here.
