The original of "Keep Your Lips Sealed" by Finnish/Parisian indie-pop duo The Dø is a trip – The verse reads like a twee death march with ominous horns in the background sitting in contrast to the saccharine vocals, and then it switches up to a bouncy synth-pop bridge that cheats equal references to Talking Heads and The Go-Go's. It's a notable work within its own right, but as the first French act to top their native charts while singing in English, you'd expect there to be something a 'lil special about them. When the formidable Franco-foursome of Canblaster, Myd, Panteros666 and Sam Tiba come together under the Club Cheval moniker, the result is most often an electro-fied, dancefloor ready appropriation of stateside hip hop vibes. Their take on the remix stays true to form - It sounds like what would happen if Purity Ring wrote a track for a sneaker ad set in a concrete NYC basketball court, rowdy gamesmanship, boomboxes, and all. Goldie Slim shows up to spit some fearsome bars for a verse and then the pitched-up vocals bring it home until the 808 breakdown kicks in.The Dø's Shake Shook Shaken is out on January 27th.Find The Dø on FB // Twitter
