Nationals Record Spectacular, Inefficient Out

Making the dream work.

Could you, just for a moment, put aside your if-you're-not-first-you're-last bullshit? Just for once? Ignore the fact that the Giants smoked the Nationals 12-6. Ignore the fact that the Nationals are sitting at .500 and are looking up at the suddenly-relevant New York Mets. Just forget about that, OK?! Geez. Thank you. Now we can move on.

This putout—which, if you're scoring at home, goes 3-4-1—from last night is simply ridiculous by the losing, losing, losing Nationals. Let's break it all the way down, shall we? We start at the beginning: 3 (first baseman Clint Robinson). Dude tips the ball up, but 4 (second baseman Anthony Rendon) Odell Beckham's the deflection to make an insane, leaping barehanded catch and fires the ball off in the general vicinity of first base because, let's be honest, that's all 4 can do. Meanwhile, 1 (pitcher Felipe Rivero) guns it to first and makes a diving catch with his foot on the bag. If you were to attach plastic lacing to each of the Nationals, you'd come away with a pretty sweet lanyard after all that weaving.

Good thing for Rivero that you're allowed to overrun first base.
