As a public art effort to explore new and unique approaches to art making, and put “creativity at the heart of the gallery,” The Tate Collective Liverpool, along with Turner Prize winners, Assemble, have staged a creative take over of the Tate Liverpool gallery. Together, Assemble and the collective worked with local youths on a series of so-called ‘ransom notes,’ a list of demands for workshops and events they wanted to see the gallery take on. This theoretical kidnapping ultimately gave way to the three-week art program, workspace, and de facto artwork, Art Gym.Modeled after a real gym, the interim art school replaces bench presses and treadmills with alternative life-drawing seminars and photography classes. Art Gym sections off focused art stations, giving visitors the opportunity to explore their creative potential. The gallery space includes a small cinema, lockers, a spa, and a boxing ring for free talks and drop in tutorials. Members of the collective will be circling the Art Gym floor as creative personal trainers, assisting you in the development of your own art making workout. All ages and abilities are welcome so if you’re in the area, head over the Tate Liverpool Gallery for an unique chance to flex your creative muscles.Check out some installation shots of the project below:Art Gym is a part of Circuit, a four-year national program dedicated to bridging the gap between young people and the arts. Art Gym is funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation and will be up at the Tate Liverpool Gallery until the 31st of March.
