Crate Expectations: Treasure Fingers

When you open a surf rock album and a Bill Cosby standup album in two separate browser tabs, you’ll understand Treasure Finger’s supreme ingenuity.

Like most people, DJs and producers have specific songs tied to events throughout their lives. In Crate Expectations, we extract a playlist from their memories to tell their story. This week's subject: Treasure Fingers.

What's the first song you ever loved?
Gerard McMann's "Cry Little Sister," [because] I was obsessed with the movie The Lost Boys when I was really young. This track was the introduction and theme song to the movie. I would rewind that part of the movie just to hear the song over and over again because I didn't have any other way to listen to it at the time.

What are the first two songs you ever mixed together?
It was an instrumental surf rock album and a Bill Cosby standup album. I had two really cheap turntables without pitch control that ran through a radio shack mixer. I remember mixing the Bill Cosby vocal over the surf rock and it was really hilarious to my child self. Play these two in separate browser tabs and you can get a little idea of my supreme ingenuity.

What is your worst guilty pleasure song?
Currently it's Young Thug "Danny Glover" and "Stoner." Strangely obsessed with his lyrics and voice. A classic would be R. Kelly's "Ignition (Remix)."

What song have you had on repeat in the last month?
Duke Dumont's "I Got U," it's so infectious—best spring and summertime song that puts me in a good mood immediately.

Which track of your own do you love the most?
That's a super hard question, but "It's Love" is probably my favorite personally. It went through a lot of versions and sample clearance drama. I ended up pulling out the vocal sample and recorded a new vocal track for the official release.

What track of your own do you hate the most?
Fortunately, it was never released. I had done an official remix for Kid Cudi years ago and it just didn't really go along well with the song, it was too forced out. It got lost in the major label shuffle and never came out.

What track are you most excited to drop peak time during Moogfest?
This was the staple of every single set I had during WMC. Treasure Fingers and Anna Lunoe "Bad MF."

What's the last song you want to hear before the lights go on?
Dino Lenny "I'm Coming Home."
