Laila Sakini and Lucy Van Meld Poetry and Sublime Electronic Music

Listen to the Melbourne duo combine poetry, speech, and melodic electronics on their new cassette.

Laila and Lucy are from Melbourne. Laila Sakini is a DJ and producer who has recently begun producing, writing and performing live solo and collaborative works. Lucy Van, works as a post-doctoral researcher in English and Theatre studies and teaches poetry. Together they have created Figures, a limited edition cassette that features poetry, speech and electronic music.

Released on Teeny Tapes, a new sub-label for London's Purely Physical, the tape offers tracks like "False Ceiling", where over Laila's experimental but playfully poppy production, Lucy reads about identity and the oddness of using the phrase "Not to my knowledge."

Limited to 100 copies, the tape is packaged with an A2 poster with Lucy's poems transcribed in full.

Listen to "False Ceiling" below.

'Figures' is available June 2 from Purely Physical.
