Carla dal Forno Announces Debut Album on Blackest Ever Black with Suspenseful Video

"What You Gonna Do Now?" is the lead single from 'You Know What It's Like.'

Melbourne-born, Berlin-based artist, Carla dal Forno, announced her debut album You Know What It's Like today with a DIY, tastefully restrained video for lead single "What You Gonna Do Now?" Not a lot happens in the clip, which was filmed by artist and designer Matthew Linde in Berlin, but an odd kind of suspense emerges as the camera follows the artist living her everyday life in the German capital—its soundtrack conveys a sense of brooding threat, the kind of thing that could be forestalled but not ultimately prevented.

"This really was one of those songs that just kind of wrote itself," dal Forno told The FADER. "I came up with the chords on a guitar and then when I started singing along, the words 'what you gonna do now…' came out. To me, it's kind of a fantasy—imagine being able to have that much control and power over someone and enact revenge… It's not something I'd ever want, but it's fun to mess around with that concept in a song."

The artist's "Fast Moving Cars" is one of our 30 favorite songs of the year so far, and her twitchily ambient single "Better Yet" was written in a house that seemed on the brink of burning down.

You Know What It's Like will be released by Blackest Ever Black on October 7.
