Alison Wonderland Gets Trolls to Apologize for Aiming Rape Jokes at Her Instagram

“I hope anyone who has ever felt threatened by comments like these know that it's totally acceptable to stand up for yourself.”

Australian producer Alex Scholler, better known as Alison Wonderland, took to Facebook and Twitter yesterday to express her disgust for two males that made rape jokes underneath one of her Instagram photos.

"I hope anyone who has ever felt threatened by comments like these know that it's totally acceptable to stand up for yourself and take it seriously," she said via social media. "Humans need to be respected equally regardless of gender or job or wealth or education."

The discussion served as a platform to address the prevailing issue of rape in today's culture. "Rape jokes are never okay. Roofie jokes are never okay. Rape is never okay," said one fan.

Meanwhile, others accused Scholler of being hypocritical by peddling a sexualized rape/abduction narrative in the video for her track "U Don't Know."

"Rape culture is definitely getting out of hand and I get you might not have found that joke humorous, but neither did the thousands of kidnap/rape victims who [saw] your video," said a Facebook commenter.

Scholler's statement also led to an uproar from her followers, who retaliated with online attacks on not only the men, but their families and girlfriends.

"I feel sorry for their poor parents. Imagine being responsible for raising such foul, disgusting, bogan children who have no respect for human beings at all," mentioned one fan on Facebook. Scholler eventually had to issue a second statement asking individuals to refrain from posting threatening comments.

"Moving on from my last post, please please please stop sending abuse to the families and girlfriends of these guys," she added. "It achieves nothing and they had nothing to do with it."

Scholler hopes her social media attention leads to a positive change for the men involved, who she says have since apologized for their comments.

"Let's just hope these other guys both learn from this and move forward."
