M.Bootyspoon and His Quest to Turn Every Dance Floor Into a Body Jackin' Mob

According to M, dancing is a Montrealer's second favourite way of staying warm.

M. Bootyspoon is a Montreal based DJ with an extensive track library, and more love for music than most. He started fostering his creativity through both music and video production in high school, and has since become one of Montreal's most beloved local DJ. Having played Igloofest, 2015 is shaping up to be a benchmark year for this young man, who's hoping to add his personal groove to the dance floors across Quebec, Canada, and the world.

M recalls the moment when he first realized he was more than just in love with music. It was the moment he realized music was his life and it was one specific song that prompted this.

"One of the most euphoric moments of my life has to be the first time I heard Stardust's 'Music Sounds Better With You.' I think it was NYE in 1999 and I was in my basement on the computer when MuchMusic aired the video. I stopped whatever lame MSN chat room conversation I was having, ran to the TV, and sat there in awe," he says. It was love at first disco.

Since then, M continued to learn and grow as a DJ in the cultural hot spot of Montreal. He grew up listening to '90s R&B, which resonates on his "All In Eyewear" mix that begins with the legendary Janet Jackson song "Would You Mind." The soft synths, the hard basslines, the fantastic transitions, and superb track selection makes this a mix worthy of a couple of plays.

More recently, M debuted another mix on his Soundcloud for his friends at WRKDEPT, a streetwear brand based in Montreal. He says that the mix was inspired by his hometown's famously icy winters.

"Slightly harsher winters and extremely (wild) nightlife scene breeds a significantly different sound that you can't really find in Toronto," he explains. "It encourages audiences, producers, and DJs alike to be more open minded to new ideas and sounds."

M. Bootyspoon is still at the cusp of his career. He's hustling; working to perfect his craft and reach new audiences. He still takes AmTrak when travelling the US and it was on the train where he first learned he would be playing Montreal's legendary Igloofest. M owned his slot last week, and still can't stop gushing about it.

"I smashed it!" he exclaims. "The crowd came through with an open mind, which was awesome and I didn't have to play a 'Turn Down For What' remix. It was without a doubt the best set that I've played, as well as one of my largest crowds to play to. I caught the warmest day of the weekend and for a Sunday night, the place was lit."

Luckily for those who missed it, his set was recorded and will soon be posted on Igloofest's Soundcloud.

Looking toward the future, M is excited for where his music career will take him. He's hoping to travel to some new, exciting cities soon and play for more wild crowds. In the mean, time he'll continue to heat up Montreal's dance floors-dancing, according to M, is a Montrealer's second favourite way of staying warm.

Acquaint yourself with M. Bootyspoon and be prepared for him to turn your local dance floor into a "body jackin' mob", very soon. His words, not mine. But there's no doubt that's exactly what will happen.
