After receiving support for his music from BBC Radio 1 presenter Gilles Peterson at the tender age of 16, Toronto's Jesse Futerman's quietly been building a name for himself, with his early downtempo productions drawing heavily on jazz and and hip-hop influences.

Following releases on acclaimed house labels including Church and Local Talk, his latest EP You Are Never Alone (out July 18 on Stockholm's Omena Records), only further showcases the young producer's growing talents. His love of veteran Stones Throw beatmaker Madlib and taste in soulful vocal samples is immediately apparent on the organic-feeling title track, which features psychedelic guitar riffs, shimmering disco strings, and a raw backbone.

According to Futerman, the song was conceived after watching a Red Bull Music Academy lecture with Leroy Burgess. "His methods of arrangement and synth work were a heavy influence on the track," he tells THUMP. Much like the percolating tunes of the NYC boogie legend, "You Are Never Alone" adeptly combines vintage funk elements with four-to-the-floor beats, sounding as appropriate for 2016 clubs as it would have in Larry Levan's Paradise Garage.
