J.u.D.’s Music Video for “Iris” Gives New Meaning To De-Flowering

This Quebec artist's gentler trap vibe is brought to light on screen.

Yet another music video that will leave you asking, "but what did that mean?"

THUMP is thrilled to premiere the music video for J.u.D.'s track "Iris"―the meaning of which is still up for interpretation.

Quebec based artist J.u.D. is one part of the super collective called the ALAIZ Crew, which includes the likes of Kaytranada, High Klassified, The Celestics and Da-P. Of the crew's extensive Canadian roster, J.u.D. stands out with his gentler, more relaxed trap music that incorporates a pop music essence. "Iris" is the second track off his current album St. Flower.

On its own, the completely instrumental track has a mysterious quality and nurtures the concept of obscurity. A woman draped in flowers and vines performs an intimate dance without stopping, even as the vines begin to pull themselves off of her. The video jumps from this scene, to one that shows a regular woman―sans the flower garb―doing a similar dance in broad daylight.

Perhaps it's an intensely metaphoric coming of age story, or a homage to Quebec's provincial flower the Iris, or maybe it's a beautiful way to portray the term "de-flowering." Whichever way you decide to frame it, the video holds itself up as a striking visual compliment to J.u.D.'s chill track.
