With nothing in the way of warning or prior announcement, Brixton's Plan B shut its doors last week, and it has now been revealed that it won't be opening them again. It has been reported by local news source Brixton Buzz, that development collective The Columbo Group have now acquired the venue. The Columbo Group currently own and operate a string of London venues, including XOYO, The Nest, and The Blues Kitchen. This does mean that, unlike other hits recently including Glasgow's The Arches and London's Plastic People, Plan B will hopefully continue to operate as a club in some capacity.That being said, Plan B itself is more than just the building, having instead become a central character in the clubbing landscape of London. Never limited by genre or audience, the nights at the club went from dub and reggae, all the way across to garage, techno and house. Paired with its basement vibe, relatively limited 600 capacity, 24 hour license, and the renowned Funktion One sound system it operated, Plan B was a serious nightclub.At this stage, Columbo Group founder Steve Ball has only said he has, "exciting plans in the mix" for the venue, when he spoke to Brixton Buzz. The challenge for Ball is going to be in somehow respecting and retaining the clubs immersive and underground qualities.
