Kim Ann Foxman's Guide to New York City

Let her be the one to show you the Big Apple in all its glory

Kim Ann Foxman first came to the attention of dancefloors the world over as a pivotal part of dynamic disco dons Hercules & Love Affair. In recent years she's turned her focus inwards, going back to her roots and releasing a string of tricky, tracky house cuts that summon up the raw energy of Chicago's mythical way-back-when.

2014 saw her collaborating with The Vinyl Factory for the launch of her Firehouse imprint. Named after the Brooklyn studio space from which Foxman crafts her tunes, the label's second release is another Foxman heater in full form. Her delightful set of dreamy, stripped back club music, Firehouse 002 is set to bring serious vibes with the Eli Escobar Super New Yorky remix of "Open the House" striking us a surefire clubland hit.

Raised in San Francisco, she moved to NYC in her 20s. Ever since she's been a key component in the city's clubbing scene, so it felt right to get her to take us on a whirlwind tour round her adopted city.

WHERE TO HEAD FOR SECOND HAND SELECTIONS

I like The Thing in Greenpoint when I have the patience for digging, and A1 in the East Village is great for more sorted records.

BEST PLACE TO GET A BUZZ ON

I usually just pre-party at home, getting ready to go out, but there are some really nice and proper cocktails at Hotel Delmano. If you also want some food with your drinks, I like to go to Allswell.

HOW TO DO POST-CLUB DINING IN STYLE

For 24 hour food I usually go to Veselka, a Ukrainian spot, after a late night in the East Village.

THE BEST OPTION FOR WHEN EVERYONE YOU KNOW AND LIKE HAS COME DOWN FOR THE NIGHT

I'd take them to either some underground party in Brooklyn. Verboten, Output, and the Good Room are nice choices too.

WHO'S THE NATIVE NEW YORK DJ WE ALL NEED TO KNOW ABOUT

Justin Strauss is really major and everyone should know him if they don't already. I love his sound and his history with dance music. He's been heating up the dancefloor since 1980 and his remixes have been heard worldwide. He's remixed a ton of high profile and pop artists like Depeche Mode, Malcolm McClaren, Fine Young Cannibals, to more underground electronic pioneers and inspirations like 808 State and Jungle Wonz, and so many more. The amount of remixes he has under his belt for great artists is insane. He's a real amazing DJ, remixer and producer. you should definitely check him out. His latest project is called A/Just/Ted , a collaboration with Teddy Stuart.

SUN'S OUT AND YOU'VE GOT TWENTY DOLLARS IN YOUR POCKET…WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH IT?

The High Line is a 1.45-mile-long New York City linear park built in Manhattan on an elevated section of a disused New York Central Railroad spur called the West Side Line. Photo via Wikipedia.

I would go to Xi'an Famous Foods with my partner in crime, get some amazing noodles and then I would walk to the West Village. Then go to the Chelsea Market to get something sweet for us, and take it up the Highline if it's not freezing out.

TWO DAYS IN NYC AND I WANT TO SEE ART AND BUY JEANS. HELP ME.

There are plenty of galleries in Chelsea to choose from, also a bunch in the Lower East Side. Then head to Opening Ceremony to get some nice things to wear!

Firehouse 002 is released on Firehouse on March 9
