Welcome To The Future: You Can Draw Your Own Midi Controller

The Draw It Yourself controller uses conductive ink on paper to create sweet, sweet music.

Want to become the next big thing in the world of psychedelic, mind-melting, synth-based electronica? Worried you can't afford the bill that will accompany your Korg MS-20 when it arrives in the post? Well don't panic, your dreams of becoming the next Legowelt may still come true. All you need is a pen, and a piece of paper. Nearly. Dani Sanz's design for the Draw It Yourself Midi uses conductive ink on paper, to transmit messages up the page and into a box that translates the signals into drum patterns or music. The project first came to light at Sonar last year and has been building interest since. There are loads of benefits to the controller; it's lightweight, completely custom designable, and you can draw it. That is surely the best thing to happen to technology since the nose hair clipper. Hopefully Sanz can now get to work on Draw It Yourself Decks, Draw It Yourself iPhones, and Draw It Yourself ATMs. Watch this space.
