Check Out a Slamming Exclusive Cut From Flava D's Forthcoming Fabric Mix

We've got the video for "Section Request" by Flava D herself right here.

This article was originally published on THUMP UK.

Flava D's one of the most innovative and exciting DJs in the UK right now, so it was no surprise when we found out that the heads over at fabric had tapped up her for a mix. Released this Friday, Fabriclive 88 is a 30 track rollercoaster ride comprised largely of material produced by Flava D herself. It's a riotous, raucous affair and we've not been able to stop listening to it ever since a homing pigeon dropped a copy down the THUMP chimney.

To celebrate the release of the mix, we're bringing you an exclusive watch of the video for Flava D' and Holy Goof's previously unreleased "Section Request"—a bass heavy slab of dancefloor dynamite. Oh, and we had a quick chat with the DJ herself. Check that out below.

THUMP: How's the year been so far? Any particular highlights? Flava D: Hey! So far my year has been great, thanks. I had my debut in Ibiza recently and that went down really well. I also did my fourth mini-tour of the States which was good fun. Oh and I moved into a lovely apartment that I'd had my eyes on for years, proud moment.

On a scale of 1-100 how much of an honor is it to be approached by Fabric to put a mix together for them?
100! I actually didn't know how much of a big thing it was until I did all my research on the previous releases last year. I'd obviously been living under a rock for so long, on Ableton! It's a massive moment for my career and I'm very honored to be involved.

How many takes did it take to smash it?
I have this thing about doing everything in one take. It's in it's most natural state that way. Most of the time it works out! When I was recording the mix, 45 mins in Skilliam tapped my shoulder and said, shit, it's not recording. But the second time round, we got there!

If you had to pick three words to describe your DJing style, what would you go for and why?
Diverse. I like to break things up so it isn't too repetitive for the audience. So for example, after dropping something really dark and bassy I might mix in a cheesy classic of some sort to add that flirtatious vibe, and then drop in a trap instrumental, then bring it back into UKG. It's all about having fun with it.

Exclusive. It's very important to me that my sets don't sound too similar to everyone else's. Whether that be me creating my own bootlegs for my set, or getting VIPs from my favorite producers.

And…vigorous.

Who's the best DJ in the UK right now?
Such a hard question! Because there are DJs killing it all over the place in different genres. But right now my favs are Chris Lorenzo & DJ Q. because they have some of the biggest productions around, and I like how they're very technical with their transitions.

Fabriclive 88 is out on Friday 15th of July.
