Whenever I'm asked what my favourite day of the year is—and that happens with alarming regularity, actually—I confidently say the following: "The best day of the year is the day that Kompakt release their annual Total compilations because they're always filled to the brim with exactly the kind of semi-melancholic techno that makes me think of people weeping in nightclubs."

This year, that day fell on the 26th of August, when Total 16 landed in every good record shop around the world. Featuring a whole host of familiar favourites—The Field, Jurgen Paape, Matias Aguayo—alongside newer additions to the Kompakt squad, it's another absolutely essential release from one of the best record labels of all time.

Our favourite track from the whole thing comes from Jorg Burger, under his Modernist moniker. Jorg—a man who knows a thing or two about that pitch-perfect intersection between emotional dissolution and complete euphoria—has teamed up with Hot Chip man Joe Goddard for "The Price of Love", a stately, strutting slice of nostalgia-house that's custom built for late night walks back from the club of your dreams.
