Bucharest's Interval festival, once billed as "the longest musical event in European nightlife history," has been handicapped. Originally planned as an 100-hour party, as Resident Advisor points out, the festival has downgraded to a single venue from a planned three, line-up cut by more than half, an action largely influenced by the deadly fire that blazed through the Bucharest club Colectiv a few weeks ago. Only one venue Club Control was the only club to pass a new round of fire and safety inspections.The organizers weren't happy with the decision to regard safety over fun: "The owners of the club have personally contacted the authority responsible with fire safety, but despite making all the necessary changes to follow the regulations and laws, they were not allowed to host our event in Guesthouse, or any other events, until their legal status is clear. Despite all these efforts the 'witch hunt' that these authorities have instated in Bucharest in the past month was both absurd and unstoppable."Performers such as Nina Kraviz, Ben UFO, and Margaret Dygas are among those who have been dropped from the considerably slimmed down bill.
