Disco Donnie Invades New EDM Markets in Atlantic City, Knoxville and Memphis

A growing dance scene in Atlantic City, Knoxville and Memphis = big money. (Hopefully.)

Veteran promoter Disco Donnie Presents is a dominant player on the dance music scene in the American South, having thrown hundreds of events in cities like Houston, Austin, and Tampa over its twenty-year run. However, the company—founded by James "Disco Donnie" Estopinal and was acquired by the EDM conglomerate SFX in 2012— has been making moves to broaden its reach, venturing into Mexico City (where it partnered with sister company Made Event on Electric Zoo) and Panama City (Day After Festival).

Today, Disco Donnie announced that it will expand into Atlantic City. The company will throw events at hookah bar and lounge Bungalow Beach, with their first show on July 26 featuring the always excellent, OWSLA-affiliated DJ Mija. (Listen to her banging ON DECK mix for us, you won't regret it.)

Disco Donnie will also keep its grip on the South by bringing EDM shows to two key markets: Knoxville (specifically, NV Nightclub and The Old City Courtyard), and Memphis (New Daisy Theatre and Beale Street), both in Tennessee.

Disco Donnie and its partners hope to foster a growing dance scene in these cities. In a press release, Memphis nightclub developer Steve Adelman said, "EDM is under-represented in the Memphis and Mid-South market. Partnering with the global leaders in this field will put us in the best position to not only expand… but help support the talent that is currently touring, offering a new home."

Whether there is really enough demand to support these endeavors remains to be seen, but one thing's for sure: valued at $6.2 billion globally, EDM is big business now—and if it hasn't swept your city yet, it will soon.
