Welcome to Notes from the Underground, THUMP's weekly premiere feature dedicated to shining a light on underground sonics from around the world. Every week, we'll start at the surface and dig deeper into the underground with each track. In this week's edition, we've got sunshine-inducing disco, old-school garage, non-depressing techno, and some blistering neurofunk – and you can check them all out at this one-stop shop. Have a dig around:Having met in the basement of Social Club in Paris in 2010, producers Mighty Mouse and Matt von Schie, finally realized their ambition of a collaborative disco project in releasing "Animals," a laid-back, melodic disco tune with class and good vibes. It's part for the course for Belgian label Eskimo, for whom tunes like this are bread and butter.Du Tonc are on Facebook // SoundCloud // Twitter"Bwana" means boss in some East African dialects, and the Torontonian producer has been living up to his name over the past year. Now releasing on Will Saul's excellent AUS Music label, "Due West" is melodic, upbeat techno for people who like warehouse raves but aren't clinically depressed.Bwana is on Facebook // SoundCloud // TwitterHouse-happy scouser James Silk follows up releases on Defected, Exploited, and OFF with "La Noche" on Hive. Oscar Luweez - "On & Off" (Zed Bias remix)
Mancunian garage stalwart Zed Bias turns up on remix duties for Oscar Luweez's debut release. The old-school remix is timeless as the bouncy, gritty bassline propels poppy female vocals. Luweez may be better known in the UK bass scene as D1, but felt compelled to launch a new moniker in which he'd be comfortable dropping flute solos into a track.Oscar Luweez is on Facebook // SoundCloud // Twitter
