Take A Photographic Trip Into the Near Past with the Dean Blunt, King Krule, and GETME! Crew

As the club crew release a hot new 12" by Nicky Otter we look back at their early days.

Way back when, Alex Hislop started a club night in a pub in the depths of West London. This was 2006. Remember 2006? There was a World Cup and everything in 2006 and years with World Cups are usually better than years without World Cups. Back in 2006 we were living through new rave. MySpace was all the rage. Lads wore pink t-shirts. Girls pulled a lot of RAWR! faces. Pete won Big Brother. Leona Lewis won the X-Factor. Paul Donald was the driver for the first time on his long-running involvement in Coach Trip. What a year. What a fucking year it was. The sun shone every single day. Beer costs 10p a pint. No one was unemployed. We all lived in castles, and you could eat chips and pizza every day without getting fat. And to top it all off, Hislop's GETME! was born.

Hislop—no relation to everyone's favourite investigative journalism magazine editor and Scouting enthusiast Ian— is better known to most of us as Lixo. As Lixo, he's seen his party/label grow from a boozy little acorn down the pub into an underground music oak. There's now a label and an NTS show and huge nights in massive venues like Corsica Studios. In a nutshell, they're doing better than Pete Bennett is. No offence, Pete.

Just last week they dropped a hot new house joint from rising producer Nicky Otter. And that made us think. We thought, "Hey, wouldn't it be good if we could turn back time and take photos at some of GETME!s early parties, featuring the likes of Dean Blunt and King Krule and Warrior Queen and a load of other now-huge underground demi-gods?" So that's what we did.

If you were there in those heady days of the mid-to-late 00s, prepare to find yourself soused in big fat tears of the purest nostalgia. Halcyon days. Get me?
