This New Software Could Make Streaming Music from All Across the Web Even Easier

It's called Aurous, and people are calling it the Popcorn Time of music.

While Amoeba Music is busy trying to open up a marijuana dispensary on the premises of their Berkeley location in order to boost sales, the internet is currently abuzz about a new piece of software called Aurous, which people are saying might be the Popcorn Time of music. They promise to make streaming from all across the web even easier with the slogan, "Free Music, Whenever, Wherever."

Aurous is currently promising zero ads, and its developer Andrew Sampson stated in an interview with Billboard that once out of alpha, they will have the ability to import playlists from YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Music into the app. The software will not host content, but rather provide an interface for user requests. "It's like how Google works; we have crawlers that go across the internet to find files and index them," he said. "We have a very nice search engine.

Sampson notably rejects the Popcorn Time comparison, saying, "That's a misconception. I'd refer to it as a player of players."

We'll have to see where this one goes, as it's obviously in a serious legal grey area.
