Your July 4th BBQ Playlist: We Got the Beats, You Bring the Meat

Because you can't grill music and you can't dance to burgers. America is about teamwork.

The fourth of July—a day of cheap beers, cholesterol binges, and a whole lot of summertime shenanigans. As dance music fans we've witnessed the holiday grow from just another excuse to take off work and get a sunburn to one of the tentpoles of the summer party season.

While some people will take to the club or pop-up dance floor to wiggle their way through the patriotism, others choose to throw their own bacchanals, turning their own backyard into destination rave. To make this happen you need a few things. 1) A crew of like-minded party people. 2) Booze or other fun things. 3) Food. (3A— Actually just save your money and buy more beer.) 4) Some really good music.

It's here where things may get tricky, so make sure your music-playing device is tucked away from the aux-offender (every party has one), and most importantly—get yourself a healthy serving of awesome mixes to soundtrack the entire shebang.

Moon Boots - Backyard Boogie Vol 2

If there's one disc-jock who knows how to soundtrack a summer backyard BBQ, it's our favorite cosmic-house pusher, Moon Boots. Born in the land of stars and stripes, and a chosen knight of the French Express label collective, the DJ and producer is all about those groovy jammies, and recently followed up the first edition of his Backyard Boogie mix series with another hour rundown through shimmering poolside rhythms. It's pretty much like drinking a refreshing umbrella drink while diving into a velvet tesseract between the years 2015 and 1975. Get in there now, but don't forget the sunscreen.

Lane 8 -

Summer 2015 Mixtape

Lane 8 just keep making more and more moves all over the world of dance music. Starting as a buzzy remixer, the California artist is now about to release his debut album Rise on Anjunadeep, and we'll let you in on a secret—it's really, really good. To help usher in the summer season and get everyone more jazzed for his forthcoming long player, Lane 8 has let loose on a summer 2015 mixtape, chock full his new album IDs, some club heat from Bicep and Kidnap Kid, and a few more soul-latching pieces of music. Save this one for when the sun goes down.

The Magician - Magic Tape 53

Everyone knows and loves The Magician's Magic Tape series and over the years its become one of the biggest mix series in all the lands. From the anticipated first track, to it's healthy handful of unreleased house heaters, its always a nonstop ride through hip-shaking, approachable tunes. The impressive 53rd edition in the series, and the last one to be posted until September, the magic man's latest gift will set fire to your pool party. Only downside, no tracklist, so expect all of your friends nagging you for track IDs, or draining their phone battery by Shazaming.

MIXED BY Miami Horror

Shimmering electro-pop by a group of jubilant gang of Australians? Has anything ever been more summery? The answer is no! One of the brightest, most bubbly editions of our esteemed MIXED BY series, Miami Horror's hour-long edition is more fun than you should be able to have in such a short amount of time, but seeing it's a holiday—we'll let you slide. This is peak-time afternoon-hour, make sure those drinks are cold and the pool is clean or, kind of nasty…

Jamie Jones - Forever Is Composed Of Nows

It's Independence Day weekend guys, that means you are legally allowed to have you party run from the afternoon Friday all the way to Sunday morning. If there's one DJ that specializes in having parties bang all the way until the sunrise, it's Jamie-fucking-Jones. The Hot Creations boss is the king on nonstop basslines and tantalizing house rhythms, and his recent cover mix for Mixmag packs the punch to prove it. You could probably get away with turning this beastly hour on during anytime of the festivities, but we recommend you unleash its power at around 1AM. Trust us, the party won't stop.

Party on Garth…
