Matthew Herbert's "Megaphone" is Dungeon Dwelling Tracky Techno of the Highest Order

Stream the brainbox's latest 12" exclusively here on THUMP.

Matthew Herbert—the boffin of the booth, the brainbox of Berghain—is a (presumably) very busy bloke. When he's not turning aubergines into vinyl, recording the life cycle of a pig, or remixing Mahler, he's running a few record labels, playing out, and producing innovative, intriguing, and ultimately exciting music. We're quite envious because our idea of being a multi-tasker only stretches as far as looking at Twitter while passively watching a documentary about people who are really into composting.

Following on from EPs by Dave Aju and Bambooman, the Lidell/Herbert 12" is the third release on the clever sod's newest imprint, Accidental JR. As the title suggests it features both Matthew Herbert and his old pal Jamie Lidell, and it's just as good as you'd expect from something that involves that pairing pressed onto the same slab of wax.

On the A-side you'll find the "laptop-in-a-hotel-room bootleg remix," of Lidell's "Come Back Around," which has been a consistent crowd-pleasing weapon deployed by Herbert in recent DJ sets. Flip the thing over—or check out our exclusive stream below—and you'll be able to soak up the dungeon dwelling tracky techno of "Megaphone," a crackling, clanker, cut from a dangerously dank cloth. Wrap yourself up in it ASAP.
