This Maribou State Mix is a Tour of American Soul Music

London act Maribou State's short-but-fruitful career has been characterized by blissed-out house sonics ever since they dropped their first EP way back in 2011. The duo sew together textures that start as subtle whispers and eventually build into driving slabs of bass that move you, and their album Portraits (released in Spring 2015 on Ninja Tune imprint Counter Records), displayed the visceral, cascading effect their productions are all about.

The complex intricacies in Maribou State's tracks allude to the fact that the guys cut their teeth on music found outside the club. Now on the heels of their next DJ tour across the US, they've flexed their music history chops, eschewing a dancefloor-ready hitfest for a collection of classic songs that represent each city they'll be hitting on the road. From the aptly titled track from Los Angeles-born Roy Ayes "Everybody Loves The Sunshine," to a pick from Chicago's Gil Scott Heron, their Sound of Eight Cities is expertly crafted and contains some of the most classic productions ever made.
