This Pixelord Mix Has That Cosmonaut Swag

"My music is mostly about a future that never happened, or dreams of the future from my childhood. It's very nostalgic all the time."

"I like to call my weird ass music electronic futurism," says intrepid Russian producer Pixelord. Call it whatever you want, you're not gonna get it until you listen to it. His new album Places (and the accompanying mix he's made for THUMP) represents a totally unique bricolage of sounds and styles, brought together into the sphere of beat-heavy dance music.

"I sample a lot, I collage and play with sounds like lego details," says Pixelord, AKA Alexey Devyanin. "It's mostly about a future that never happened, or dreams of the future from my childhood. It's very nostalgic all the time."

"The mix is a showcase for my current sound for 2015, it has lots of new tunes, album tunes, remixes. I do so many remixes lately. There's all kinds of bass, futuristic vibes in the mix as well."

Pixelord's own work and that of his co-owned label Hyperboloid have quickly gathered steam in Deyvanin's native Russia. "I'm happy to have huge support from the underground electronic scene in Russia," he says, before laughing "Although they like to pirate my albums right away after release. But I don't fight with that. It would be a waste of time."
