Tim Shiel Takes Broadway Sounds' "Sing It Again" For an Interstellar Cruise

The Melbourne producer doubles the dub on the outfit's breakthrough track.
Rising Melbourne three-piece Broadway Sounds had hips shaking with the frenetic groove on "Sing It Again," released earlier this year. Now the track has found itself in another galaxy thanks to production wizard Tim Shiel (host of Double J's excellent Something More program, and composer for #viral app smash Duel). Listen to the far-flung freakout above, and read the musicians' thoughts on the cut below.

Broadway Sounds' Andrew Diamond Phillips:
"When it comes to remixes, we don't do them often (we have only done one, for Geoffrey O'Connor) and we also don't seek out producers to remix our work often either. When either does happen, it has to be something really worthwhile; and we think Tim has done an amazing job with his reinterpretation. Tim's version reminds me of the early to mid eighties dub versions of songs - extended, rearranged, spliced and often enough - ready for the dancefloor… which ties in well with many aspects of Broadway Sounds."

Tim Shiel:
"I just tried to stay true to the energy of the original track, and the overall joyous, infectious vibe of Broadway Sounds. I came at it like a dub, tried to imagine that I was Arthur Baker or Erol Alkan and push the track into some sort of acid trip parallel universe. as usual, once I disconnected my brain from the process and just started doing whatever made my body happy, it all clicked from there."

Broadway Sounds perform at the launch of I Heard a Whisper at The Gasometer Hotel, Melbourne on Saturday July 4. Tickets here.
