Listen to Tony Quattro's Fiery 'Broad City' Soundtrack Cut, "Dat Gyal"

We also asked Matt FX to give us the backstory of five songs off the OST.

Good news for Broad City fans. Starting tomorrow, you'll be able to download a the show's official soundtrack (pre-order [here](http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=40799645&parentid=SUGGESTIVE+SEARCH+RESULTS&q=broad https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/broad-city-original-series/id1156310062)) on Milan Records. Curated by New York producer, DJ, and nightlife institution Matt FX, the soundtrack spans bubbly electronic pop and club music across its 12 tracks.

Today, we're debuting a special one from Tony Quattro—who we once described as the Joe Pesci of NYC house—called "Dat Gyal." Featured on the show's web series HACK INTO BROAD CITY over the summer, the track features a booming vocal from junglist icons the Ragga Twins, a rubbery bass line, and tons of bristling NYC energy. Per Quattro, it came together "as a finished song when Deekline passed me the acapella he recorded with the Ragga Twins while we were on tour in the UK. The rest is history!"

We asked Matt FX to give us the backstories of five of his favorite songs from the soundtrack—you can check that out, as well as the streaming track, below.

Tony Quattro - "Dat Gyal"
So this is a fun one—Tony is one of my best friends and closest colleagues and does a lot of original composing for the show: The Ms. Doubtfire spoof, the in-flight safety video in the season three finale, chase scenes in season three, and so on—and is additionally always shooting short little demos for me to consider for quick b-roll transitions in the show. This song came to me in one of those folders but actually wound up getting used in the HACK INTO BROAD CITY webisodes that held fans over before season three. When it came time to place music in the actual season, I knew I wanted to find a place for it, and once the soundtrack came around, I knew we had to immortalize it as a Broad City exclusive!

Zebra Katz & Kashaka - "Marijuana"

Kashaka is another close homie of mine from NYC and when I heard he was getting into the studio w Ojay [Zebra Katz], I was super excited to see what they'd cook up. I remember him sending me a first draft demo, being like, "I would be surprised if you couldn't find a place for this in the show." At the time, I thought it might be TOO on the nose, though as soon as I saw footage from that scene—Ilana searching her entire house up and down for hidden weed—I knew immediately that this was the one.

Scooter Island Ft. Junglepussy - #NOTYOURS
This one's another good story—essentially, I'd written the song with a few other members of Scooter Island between season one and two, and when post-production got started for season two, I happened to still be in China on a quick vacation with my parents. Seeing as they needed music to get going, I wound up sending them a big batch of 100 or so tunes; it was actually Abbi and Ilana who placed the tune in the show, without even knowing that I was the one behind the project! I remember coming back to the cut and seeing the song in the scene—Abbi was like, "Are you sure we can afford this?," which definitely made me smile.

Normaling (Ft. Rye Rye & TT The Artist) - "Low Drop"
This one was another one of those tracks where I kind of knew immediately once I saw the footage what the track would be. I got introduced to Space Is The Place records through Tony Quattro at the very beginning of my work on season three, and this tune immediately stood out to me in the batch they sent over. Once I saw the scene with Blake and Ilana in all their naked antics, I just knew it would be absolutely perfect

RJD2 (Ft. STS & Khari Mateen) - "See You Leave"
This is actually a bittersweet story, as this track was a replacement for something we couldn't license back in season one, when I first joined the show. The scene was Abbi in the dentist office waiting room, stoned out of her mind. Originally, the editor had used "Hey Ma" by Cam'ron, which was (unfortunately) a totally p e r f e c t usage! Generally when super-famous songs get thrown in the cut, it's one of the hardest things for me to replace, as everyone involved gets emotionally attached to the song against the picture. Seeing as "Hey Ma" was built off a Lionel Richie sample, I knew there was just absolutely no way we'd ever be able to afford it.

Luckily, Abbi is good friends with RJD2, who was super excited to shoot some stuff over to us in our hour of need. While I'd love for the fans to have seen the Cam'ron cut, I do think this track worked just as good, emotionally and tonally. I think the general earnestness of using a song people might not have heard before fits more into the show's DNA, anyway!
