Torn Hawk and Xosar Teamed Up and Created Some Dope Noise Techno

The duo have come together as Body Tools, stream the B-side of their debut single now.

Breaking news: Berlin-based techno producer Xosar, aka Sheela Rahman, and fellow L.I.E.S. alumn Torn Hawk, aka guitarist-synthesist Luke Wyatt, have come together on a new project called Body Tools. We'd call it a collaboration, but the statement they released alongside their debut single on Torn Hawk's label Valcrond Video would suggest they don't like that word. Instead, the statement offers: "For this record they have gathered charged objects and materials, and sealed them inside a cube: Red metal, black satin. Women's hair, lion's teeth, wings. On stage, appearing as the King of Locusts: a man who was once close to you. Body Tools begins here."

The project's title is quite evocative in itself, bringing to mind things like cyborg prostheses, sex toys, and bodybuilding equipment. The B-side of their new 12", entitled "Brave," feels equally psychedelic, demanding rapt yet woozy attention for each of its nine minutes with its persistent techno beat, industrial textures, and cinematic piano chords. "This track reminds us of our path to reconciliation after acrimony over the sort of teenage decision making that results in Sheela's Octatrack getting stolen because we throw a party in our hotel room attended by a bunch of randos," Torn Hawk told THUMP via email. "Fighting on the plane home, so sour at high altitudes. Then we get an email the next day that a friend had simply mistaken the bag containing the Octatrack for his own, and everything is OK. Teenage decisions resume the next weekend." Stream the track below, and purchase the whole single here.

In related news, Xosar has launched her own label, Gyrocore, with a solo EP entitled Show Yourself. "Manmeat PCP" from that forthcoming release is streaming on her SoundCloud, and the whole thing can be pre-ordered here.
