A Kid Stops a Martian Invasion on Fabricio Peçanha’s Video for "Space Invaders"

The little game that has heroically survived through the decades is now fodder for Peçanha's newest video.

If you're around 30 or more, you most certainly played Space Invaders (a lot). The little game whose premise is to pilot a ship and get rid of the invading monsters has heroically survived through the decades, and now, in 2014, is being used as a reference for the new video by DJ and producer Fabrício Peçanha.

Hustling since the 90s, the gaucho DJ is part of the gang of electronic music pioneers in Brazil. Peçanha has played in Ibiza and opened for the likes of Madonna, Lady Gaga and Fatboy Slim. Along with fellow Brazilian DJs Marky and Anderson Noise, he's been ranked by DJ Mag's as one of the world's best.

Peçanha tells us he just spent a week entrenched in the studio in Florianopolis creating some new music. Recorded and directed in LA by Patrick Kiely of Rumpus Creative fame, "Space Invaders" is much like a sci-fi flick from the 50s, a retro-futurist look that poetically contrasts with the DJ's beats for the dancefloor. "The video itself aims to be fun and old school at the same time. It's the story of a boy with high hopes, and upon drawing some stuff at home, ends up picturing Martian invaders attacking Earth. He grabs his toy gun and goes to war, and in the end, saves the planet," Peçanha tells us.

The track was released last November on Erase Records and you can check it out on the player below or get it at Beatport.
