The windswept emoting of Carla dal Forno's forthcoming debut solo album You Know What It's Like is a soundtrack for feelings that have aren't easily named. The spaced-out grayscale works can seem merely grim, but listen closely and you'll find more complicated sentiments—conflicted kiss-offs, paeans to the grandeur of the world, and in the case of the record's title track a summation of both the comfort and anxiety that comes in a long-term relationship. Dal Forno says in an email it's meant to evoke the time in a relationship when "the points of difference start to become more obvious."She's sharing that latter track today, alongside a visual that's meant to echo the song's gentle, ominous exploration of intimacy. The clip, directed by and starring Dal Forno herself, finds her repeatedly waking up in different beds alongside another person, slowly beginning preparations for her day. It's a close-up look into the moments of someone's life you don't normally see, repeated ad-infinitum. The song itself is slinking and somber, but there's a strange peace to the video, suggested by the repeated act of greeting a new day. Dal Forno told THUMP that the video is meant to mirror and upend the closeness that the track suggests."With the video footage I wanted to get into other peoples living spaces and have a poke around," she writes. "I also wanted to highlight an idea that is in the track; that intimacy and distance can be seen as two sides of the same coin. How much do you truly know someone you're close with?
