Danish Gloom-Pop Duo Darkness Falls Share Video for "Dance And Cry"

A sexagenarian femme fatale meets an intriguing stranger in a gloomy lounge straight out of a Wong Kar-Wai film.

Last night at a bar, I got into an argument with two guys at a bar about sleeping with older women. "I'd rather bang a girl in her 20s than Cameron Diaz," said one over my guffaws. "Men are uniformly attracted to 22-year-olds," the other told me matter-of-factly. This only proved what I already knew: ageism is a very shitty thing that exists in this world. Also, there's no surer path to misery than drunken fights with strangers.

Luckily, "Dance And Cry," the latest video from Danish duo Darkness Falls (Josephine Philip and Ina Lindgreen) restored my faith in finding love (or just getting laid) even after you've hit menopause. Off the group's sophomore release of the same name, the song is a retro-leaning exercise in pop noir. In a cinematically gloomy lounge straight out of a Wong Kar-Wai film, a sexagenarian femme fatale meets an intriguing stranger propped up against the bar. A few smoldering looks and shots of whiskey later, they're on the dance floor. It's an old, familiar story for anyone who's ever like, step foot in a club before, yet the video--complimented by waves of 80s synths and Philip's yearning vocals--makes it mysterious and melancholy in just the right way.
