Kevin and Dantiez Saunderson Are The First Family of Techno

We caught up with the father-son pair amidst their tag-team set at Michigan’s Electric Forest

For iconic techno innovator Kevin Saunderson and his son, Dantiez, a rising star hoping to follow in his father's footsteps, life isn't necessarily normal. For this dynamic father-son pair, some of the only instances they have time to catch up and grill each other about their busy lives is in between their globe trotting DJ sets, just like the occasion in which we were able to lock them down for this rare BFFs episode—amidst their off-the-chain set deep in the woods at Michigan's Electric Forest.

Watch the boss-man Kevin question his young neophyte on the progress of his debut album, discuss his son's transition into DJing and producing techno, and even give a few deets on his own busy schedule as a touring DJ.

We even get to hear the supremely wise techno icon give a bit of a history lesson on what it was like breaking boundaries with Juan Atkins and Derrick May as one-third of the legendary Detroit techno group, The Belleville Three. "Music is an expression, it should be what you feel like it is. You'll touch people if you have it in you."

Something tells us Dantiez certainly heard some powerful bedtime stories growing up!
