Last December, multi-instrumentalist and acclaimed percussionist Deantoni Parks (Flying Lotus, The Mars Volta) dropped his sophomore solo LP Technoself on Leaving Records. The stuttering sample-heavy album was created with Parks keeping one hand on the keyboard and pads and another taking a stick to a snare and hi-hat. That process has now been captured for a short documentary. The Adam Thompson directed A Film About Building is a rare glimpse into an artist still figuring out his process. As Parks comments on his musical philosophy, we watch as he navigates a live performance half-improvisitorily and half-faithful to the recording.. About one track he jokes "I have specific idea of what that song is and what it means, but not in the way of a strict arrangement. You can do any piece in any number of ways. Why limit yourself to one?"
