Watch: An Interview With a Co-Founder and a Designer Behind the World's First Electronic Music Museum

MOMEM co-founder Alex Azary, along with designer Stefan Weil describe the concepts of the museum.

The Museum of Modern Electronic Music is slated to open its doors in early 2018. Situated in the heart of Frankfurt in a former children's museum, MOMEM will be a lifestyle and living museum dedicated to all aspects of electronic music, from its experimental origins to its current dance floor dominance, and on to its global impact, its design aesthetics, and, of course, some of the signature clothing brands and styles that have turned electronic music from a genre to a full-fledged movement.

In an interview with Electronic Beats, MOMEM co-founder Alex Azary, along with designer Stefan Weil speak about the concept of the museum, which they describe as an institution that will document the history and influence the future of electronic music. With great detail and barely contained excitement, the two walk through their concept of MOMEM, ideas that will include a public pavilion for events, a meticulously assembled historical exhibit, a "global map" of electronic music situating labels and festivals to their respective regions, and a instrument room where you can play a wide variety of synthesizers, drum machines both analog and digital. Their only regret: "you can't show everything in only a few 1000 meters of space."
