Crate Expectations: Snakehips

The UK duo clear clubs with Ja Rule samples.
Like most people, DJs and producers have specific songs tied to events throughout their lives. In Crate Expectations, we extract a playlist from their memories to tell their story. The latest subject: Snakehips.

THUMP: What's the first song you ever loved?

What are the first two songs you ever mixed together?
Snakehips: We started mixing with loads of old UK hip-hop. It would probably have been something like these two.

What is your worst guilty pleasure song?
"If" by Destiny's Child.

What song have you had on repeat in the last month?
Masta Ace's "Born To Roll." That bassline has been stuck in my head for a while.

Which track of your own do you love the most?
"Forever."

What track of your own do you hate the most?
We like them all.

What track are you most excited to play on your Coming to America tour?
Our Banks remix went off every time. It's a karaoke heaven and hell [laughs].

What's your favourite track that you wish worked in a set?
"On The Floor" by IceJJFish. Wish we could fit this in somewhere but its too chill for most nights we play. Best slow jam of 2014.

What's the last song you want to hear before the lights go on?
James played this the other night in DC. Cleared the whole club. Ja Rule's "I'm Real."

The UK duo have just come off a killer US tour and are set as one of the biggest acts to watch for 2015. Follow them on their SoundCloud and Facebook for more updates and music. They've also recently been added as special guests at Annie Mac's Brixton show.
