The Editors' New Groove Vol. XI

Fuck it, it's friday. Turn up to 12 and blast this noise.

The Editors' New Groove is a weekly pow-wow on the freshest new releases from THUMP's editors and regular contributors' radars.

Jacques Renault - "The Fake Out" (the Organ Grinder Remix)
A brooding cut of house that belongs in a sweaty basement full of slapdash graffiti and girls with a passing resemblence to fuckable aliens. (Michelle Lhooq)

Drake - "Crew Love" (Navid Izadi Remix)
I have a common problem of ordering more food then I can eat and today got two fully loaded slices of pizza but only ate one and a half slices, in part because I was about to OD on bleu cheese and bacon but mostly because I really wanted to get back to my computer to listen to this sexy Crew Love remix from Navid Izadi. It's a grade A digestif. (David Garber)

GRAZE - "Ripley"
Have you ever gone deep house roller skating? I did. Last night. On a basketball court in the back of a Salvation Army in Bedstuy, Brooklyn. Next week I'm gonna burn this bad boy on a blank CD for the DJ there, Big Bob, so this skatequeen can have a proper soundtrack. (Max Pearl)

General Ludd - "Woo Ha"
Also, this. Speaking of the roller rink, this sounds like someone brought a TASCAM field recorder to a 1974 disco jumpoff. This brings me back to Mister Sunday, may it RIP. (Max Pearl)

Bromley - "Power Trip"
I like tracks with talking. I like Bullet Train. I like free downloads. My plan for this one: wait until some douchechill tries to pwn me in a meeting, then drop this and walk out calmly while it repeats over and over and over. (Vivian Host)

Klimeks - "Glimmers"
"Glimmers" inhabits a downbeat landscape of nothing but shadows, growling bass, a warped breath in the ear, and echoes ricocheting off a wet rock and a damp hard place. The only glimmer of hope around the corner is some hidden birds chirping somewhere. But I'm content to dwell with you for now. I dig it. (Mike Steyels)

Cashmere Cat - "With Me" (Spazzkid Remix)
Spazzkid's stuff just makes me smile and when I saw that he got his hands on a Cashmere Cat beat that smile went full-on goofy. Give his LP "Desire" a full listen and join me in exuberation. (David Garber)

Erika - "North Hex" (Patrick Russell Reshape)

Erika's Hexagon Cloud album was so nice that she had it remixed twice. Patrick Russell's tripping version of "North Hex" stands out from the pack by virtue of its staunch kick, eerie pads, and rumbling globs of low end. (Elissa Stolman)

Aden - "Whip" (Jimmy Edgar Remix)
Jimmy Edgar comes through with a 90s-house-inspired "Whip" re-rub so frothy and delicious it could be the head on an Orange Julius. Speaking of, someone should totally give Jimmy Edgar head at an Orange Julius. (Vivian Host)

Shackleton - "Freezing Opening Thawing" (Woe to the Septic Heart)

The latest offering from UK stalwart Shackleton revels in jittery polyrhythms and prickly notes. With the exception of "Silver Keys," the EP isn't as dark or foreboding as some of his past work, but no less rewarding. (Elissa Stolman)

Matic808 - "Go"

"Matic, where the party at?" Well, wherever his music's being played out, obviously. Hopefully the Baltimore producer will start playing in New York more often, cause I'd rather dance in a club to his beats than in my bedroom—which happens more often than I really want to admit. This cut dropped on a new British label called Beat Werk, so respect for them for catching on to the homie before a lot of people stateside have. But Tiga and Brenmar have been in the studio with him already, so don't be surprised to hear more from him outside of Baltimore soon. (Mike Steyels)

Walrus Ghost - "Uplifting Themes For the Naysayer"

Fuck it, it's Friday and my frayed nerves can't take anymore battering. (Michelle Lhooq)
