For as long as I can remember, I've been a big fan of hip-hop music. The instrumental aspect of its style, in particular. When I first started producing, I was making stripped-back, beat-infused compositions for fun. This eventually led me into house and techno. But I've always had one ear in the rap world in terms of influence.This summer, I had a few weeks off in the studio and decided to get weird on the Biggie sample for "Going Back to Cali." I had it laying around for years. I've always loved the original, but I wanted to make it into something that I could play in my live sets. I never intended on putting the track out officially because truthfully, the sample would be impossible to clear! But people have been asking me a lot about it, so I felt it would be cool to give it away for free instead.
