Listen to "Headshot," a Mutant Grime Track from London Producer TSVI

A pulse track for 2015.

Techno no longer has a monopoly on minimalism. These days, there are plenty of tough, stripped-back bass experiments taking place at the bleeding edge of UK grime, and TSVI's "Headshot" is a case in point. Like many of his contemporaries, the young London producer is clearly indebted to the early grime classics—in particular, Youngstar's 2002 instrumental track "Pulse X," which you can hear loud and clear in the track's skeletal rhythm-and-bass arrangement.

This one is for fans of that genre's more aggressive, industrial strains. According to TSVI, it was even inspired by one of the bloodiest titles in PC gaming history. "'Headshot' was inspired by the game Quake 3, which is where I took that voice sample from," he told THUMP. "It's one of my favorite games of all time." Some of you may even be old enough to remember playing that 1999 shooter classic via dial-up modem on your family's PC.

"Headshot" comes off of TSVI's five-track Set You Free EP—only the second release of his career—which is due to drop next month via dude's own Nervous Horizon imprint, and includes remixes and features from Lokane and Luru. For more from TSVI, you can check out his eclectic Rinse FM set from earlier this month, mixing alongside frequent collaborator Wallwork—who co-runs Nervous Horizons—and Bristol producer Appleblim.
