Stream: Floating Points x Hejira - "Floating Test"

Be the first to listen to this slow-burning orchestral excursion.

Perhaps this is the type of music doctors chill out to while studying the intricacies of the human brain. Floating Points is, after all, a neuroscientist by day. He teamed up with fellow London-based band Hejira for "Floating Test," which THUMP premiers today for our US readers.

The song is a nine minute journey through a landscape of orchestral sonics, unhurriedly traversing landmarks staked out previously by late-'90s Ninja Tunes artists. The first half of the trip ambles among sparse fields of wafty synth and theremin-like melodies and flute drones. A bass guitar, some backward samples, and the soft singing of Hejira's Rahel catches up with the troupe before some jazzy excursions and traditional drum kits liven up the pace a notch. The original "Litmus Test" is a more rockish affair, and this version will be featured on the single, which also includes a remix by Seb Rochford. Matthew Herbert's Accidental Records will release it next week.
