This Actually Happened: Dick and Dom Once Learned How to be a Garage DJ and MC on CBBC

They were coached by two members of DJ Pied Piper and the Master of Ceremonies.

Right, Dick and Dom, right? Once learnt how to be a garage DJ and MC on CBBC.

No messing about here everyone, no point me spinning some lengthy introductory paragraph about the commodification of subcultures or the distorting effects of childhood memory. The point here, the very important point, is that once upon a time Dick and Dom learnt how to be a garage DJ and MC on children's television. Dick and Dom once had a show on CBBC called Bring It On, the basic premise of which was setting the two presenters challenges in fields they knew nothing about. Mostly this consisted of the pair working towards becoming stand up comedians, or entering the 'Birdman of Bognor' competition. Only one week, their challenge was to become a proficient garage DJ and MC. Yes, Dick and Dom once learnt how to be a garage DJ and MC on CBBC.

Here's basically what happened when Dick and Dom learnt how to be a garage DJ and MC. Firstly they meet Sharky P and MC DT—both of them members of early-noughties one-hit royalty DJ Pied Piper and the Masters of Ceremonies (it's worth noting as this point that MC DT was actually the creator of the somewhat famous line, "Do you really like it? Is it, is it wicked? We're loving it, loving it, loving it. We're loving it like that," which is a pretty solid claim to fame when all's said and done). Anyway, Sharky P and MC DT start teaching Dick and Dom how to MC and DJ, starting the transformative journey towards their ultimate destination: an under-18's night in Rochester.

Along the way a number of significant events occur. 1) Sharky P threatens Dick and Dom with whips. 2) Dick and Dom fall out because Dom's rhymes aren't good enough so Dick laughs at him, resulting in Dom's self-esteem plummeting. 3) Sharky P and DT take Dick and Dom clothes shopping and they both get really sick polyester shirts. 4) Dick and Dom fly to Ibiza to meet DJ Luck and MC Neat. 5) Dick and Dom refer to themselves as Richy D and Diddy Man. 6) Finally, at the end of the experience, Dick says "I love garage music now."

I realise this is a bit much for you to take in, so you know what? Why not make a cup of tea, set aside twenty minutes, and follow the journey from start to finish.
