You Can Now Get Greggs Delivered to Your Desk

We’ll have a steak bake and two sausage rolls, stat.

It's lunchtime, your stomach is getting grouchy, and that weeknight hangover is nearing the feed-me-anything-greasy-now stage. But leaving your desk means battling against the lunchtime crowds and choosing from a selection of underwhelming supermarket sandwiches. Plus, c'mon, it's cold outside.

But, fear not. Greggs is here to save the day.

Everyone's favourite high street bakery and sausage roll slinger announced earlier this week that it would be trialling a new delivery service around the City of London, as well as in Newcastle's city centre and Cobalt Business Park. Following the trial, there are also plans for rollout in Manchester.

"Greggs Delivered" offers a selection of the chain's sweet and savoury food for delivery, including sausage and bean melts, pasties, and the infamous Greggsnut. But with a minimum spend of £20, customers may find themselves having to over-order on the steak bakes. (But then, is there really such a thing as too many steak bakes?)

The delivery service announcement comes not long after the bakery chain, which started in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the 1940s selling yeast and eggs, reported an increase of 4.2 percent in sales. Chief executive Roger Whiteside told the Guardian that the new service could help insulate the company's finances against the rising cost of ingredients, post-Brexit.

He said: "In the year ahead, while we will undoubtedly see a number of well-documented industry headwinds, we are confident we will continue to make progress with the implementation of our strategic plan."

Plus, you get to eat a cheese and bacon wrap without leaving your desk. Now that's strategic.
