Most Vital: Gorgon Goes 'All Night,' Clean Bandit Goes All Year, Mord Fustang Goes into Overdrive

Gorgon City hit No. 1 for the first time and this week's other crucial stories.

Gorgon City Nabs Its First No. 1; Clean Bandit Hits a Milestone

It's Chicago on the Thames as Gorgon City and Jennifer Hudson reach the top spot on the Billboard Dance/Club Songs chart. "Go All Night" has been steadily inching up the rankings since its release seven weeks ago, this week rising 2-1 to earn the UK duo their first No. 1 single on any major chart. Previous efforts including the MNEK-featuring "Ready for Your Love" and "Unmissable" featuring Zak Abel peaked at No. 2 and 5 respectively. While she's hit the peak spot on the R&B charts, "Go All Night" is Hudson's first Dance No. 1 as well.

In the UK, Clean Bandit rounds the corner of an impressive 52 weeks on the Dance Singles Top 40 with "Rather Be" even as it drops from 30-36 on the Singles Chart where the quartet's "Real Love" featuring Jess Glynne rests at No. 12. That track got a pulsating remix treatment by The Chainsmokers who redeem most of their past crimes against Instagrams. Even as "Rather Be" slips to No. 46 on the US Hot 100, where it has notched a respectable 36 weeks and is primed to roll into Grammy week in early February with solid radio support.

After hyping and executing a much-discussed performance on Saturday Night Live, Sia's "Elastic Heart" enters the US Top 20 (No. 17) and Canadian Top 10 (No. 7) in its first official week of release. The video for the Diplo-produced tune has racked up over 67 million plays in two weeks.

Skream Hops Over to Crosstown Rebels

Skream's open armed embrace of house and disco in recent years seems to invigorated the dubstep progenitor, and this week saw take a step deeper (and weirder) signing to Damian Lazarus' much-loved te Crosstown Rebels. The partnership will see the release of the forthcoming "Still Lemonade" single and the tantalizing promise of 2015 featuring a third Skream LP.

The UK Government Failed to Prevent Drug Deaths

report in The Guardian says the British government failed to warn clubbers about a deadly batch of ecstasy pills containing a toxic substance named PMMA that has resulted in the death of four men. Public Health England, a body of the NHS, was reportedly made aware of the danger by Dutch authorities in advance but did not issue a public alert.

In a relativey substance-tolerant nation like the UK, a policy of silence by authorities on such matters is being decried as problematic. Calls for a more responsive and reactive drugs-alert system have become all the more pressing to prevent further deaths. Still, it's hard to imagine American or even Canadian government agencies ever being so proactive.

Ain't No Party Like a Pyongyang Party

Elsewhere in the world, partying is even more dangerous. Although raving in North Korea may not be all the rage (yet), young peoples still get down in the Hermit Kingdom. According to a new report, it turns out all you need is an abandoned house, a generator, and a couple K-pop CDs to throw your own DIY pop-up under the nose of one of the world's most oppressive governments. If we've made that sound easy, it's not.

Björk and Madonna Stop Leaks Differently

Not wallowing in the satisfaction of simply announcing her album last week, Icelandic weirdo-pop icon Björk went ahead and surprise-released Vulnicura on Tuesday after it leaked on the weekend. Meanwhile, the guy who allegedly leaked Madonna's Rebel Heart, was arrested in Tel Aviv. Certainly, that's one way of handling things.

Sumo Hockey and Spilled Secrets

While those at BPM bragged about their tans, Montrealers (and techno fans from all over)proudly danced in slush atIgloofest. The negative 25 degree weather was a far cry from the grassy festivals that frequent Tumblr streams, but Canadians were unafraid to revel in three layers of socks.

Meanwhile in Toronto, indie band Interpol let a secret slip about the future of The Sound Academy (hint: it involves DJs) even as the #GuvLuv pours in from the artists who forged their careers there over the last two decades. Later this month, there will be some major feels, you guys.

Solveig and GTA Get Surreally Sauced

Perennial good time guy Martin Solveig returned this week in the surrealist video for his tune "Intoxicated," a bossy future house number that features post-trap provocateurs GTA. In the pastel-coated video Martin keeps the tennis player styling he's known for while showing off a slighty creepy moustaches while dancers of all stripes (ballet to poll) grace the screen. The clip has racked up over a quarter million views in two days, so get used to hearing this one.

Mord Fustang Goes Into Overdrive
