AS I AM Made His “Samba” Remix With the Afterparty in Mind

Remixing an already flawless anthem is never an easy task.

Remixing an already flawless house anthem is never an easy task. Thankfully, AS I AM is up to the challenge. Boldly taking on the initiative of spicing up the legendary Todd Terry's iconic track "Samba," the London-based producer adds some contemporary darkness to the formerly vibrant track.

While the original song could kickstart just about any social gathering, AS I AM's remix is made with the afterparty in mind. With a hypnotic reverb that powerfully dominates the Spanish flare of the predecessor, in partnership with an emphatic never-ending bass line, this "Samba" is villainously delicious. It's the excitement you feel walking into the basement of a slightly disturbing, but nonetheless exhilarating, promoter-run post-bar affair.

A track on the Samba 2015 Remix EP, a release from Canadian dance music veteran Andy Reid's label, Phoenix Music, AS I AM's remix is a refreshing update on an eternal club staple. Over two decades since the release of the celebratory genre-bender, he proudly honours Todd Terry's spirit, while simultaneously offering listeners a modern new way to dance to a familiar sound.
