When it comes to early 2000s Southern hip-hop anthems, it's hard to think of a debut single more irresistible than Rich Boy's "Throw Some D's." With a finger-snapping beat courtesy of Butta and Polow da Don, and a giddy call-and-response hook, the 2006 ode to expensive rims earned the rapper fans in Andre 3000, Kanye West, Nelly, and more.The track was also a staple on Canadian producer AudioOpera's high school iPod, alongside hits like D12's "My Band" and Three 6 Mafia's Project Pat-assisted "Poppin' My Collar." For the Hot Sugar affiliate's latest EP, Isolation Room, he reached out to some of his favourite rappers from his teenage years. We've already heard first single "Stoneman," and today we're premiering Piece By Piece," which features Rich Boy, Project Pat, Bay Area mainstay Antwon, and Estonian newcomer Tommy Cash.AudioOpera's glitchy, slightly ominous production provides the perfect cover for the unlikely crew, whose respective verses ricochet like skipping stones in a lake. Over email, the producer told THUMP how the Frankensteinian collaboration came together."The song started by texting Project Pat and Rich Boy. I DM'd Antwon with the idea and then Skyped Tommy Cash," he said.
