What's the Deal?
Writing about Fred P is like walking through a minefield, only the mines are clichés. It would be trite to use the words "deep" or "soulful"—or to describe his music with the phrase "mellow groove," because those are shallow attempts at capturing the sense of spiritual intoxication his work incites. Like Flying Lotus, New York City house producer Fred Peterkin's style of electronic music tends to reproduce and enhance the best parts of feeling stoned: there's an immersive quality that is at once engrossing and enveloping, a heavy emphasis on ambiance and chillout vibes, and the sense that it's profound in an emotional or psychedelic way. Those identifiably seductive qualities of Fred P's music apply to the output of his label, Soul People Music, which he founded circa 2006 as an outpost for his own creations. Although the imprint has played host to a handful of little-known producers from around the world, most of its releases come from Fred himself, often under his moniker Black Jazz Consortium.

Explain the name Soul People Music.
Fred P: Soul: the principle of life, feeling, thought, and action in humans, regarded as a distinct entity separate from the body, and commonly held to be separable in existence from the body; the spiritual part of humans as distinct from the spiritual part.

People: persons indefinitely or collectively; persons.

Music: an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color.
