Guyus Grey Goes Intergalactic On His Northmix

The part owner of Downpour Recordings brings minimal techno to planet Earth.

Greetings techno earthlings. This installment of Northmix is a whole new kind of release.

Descending down onto planet Earth to infect us with his intergalactic sounds is Guyus Grey. Born out of the Igorian River, Guyus is making an Earthly name for himself through his minimalistic and acidic techno. As one of the owners of ground control, or Toronto's Downpour Recordings, he has made it possible to tell the stories of his former intergalactic home in space through the releases on Downpour.

Recorded as a real-time set using three piece analog, the whole mix goes without any edits or sounds by other artists. Comprised solely by the works of Guyus Grey himself, he composes what he deems "one long techno symphony, [where] eight movements occur throughout the piece." The intention is for the listener to experience his music in the most minimalistic way possible.

"This product truly speaks to not only how I've wished to perform since I began, but [as to] why I chose to take up musical production in the first place," Guyus explained. "The fact that this three piece analog system enables me to perform in real time, it allows me to become one with the music on a physical and emotional level and is ultimately how I find myself enabled to tell the story of Guyus Grey through the music."

The forthcoming album by Guyus Grey called The Grey Man is expected to be dropped on Downpour Recordings in early 2015. It will feature an accompanying science fiction story and space artwork for his futuristic techno symphony.

But for now, get weird with this far-out version of Northmix on THUMP.
