Ausmuteants Love Guys Called Kurt

We interviewed the guys from Ausmuteants because their Facebook page gave us nothing.

Local boys Ausmuteants enjoy perforating eardrums, making messy garage sounds, and seem to have at least one member in every band in the city. They also just happen to be playing playing Noisey Mountain, the free party we’re putting on with our friends Sugar Mountain as part of this year’s Melbourne Music Week. What a coincidence.

They’re playing with Straight Arrows, Raw Prawn and Bitch Prefect at a secret CBD location that’ll be revealed closer to the date. Don’t worry, this isn’t like when your parents said they had a secret and you ended up spending the summer with your weird cousins in Inverloch. This one is dead set awesome.

As we mentioned, the party will be free, but you have to RSVP here if you want to come.

We thought we'd sit down with them and find out what else they like doing, other than making our ears feel weird, in a good way.

VICE: Do you stand by your advice, don't start your own band? It seems to be working out pretty well for you guys?
I must have been in a, "steal things that total control have done" stage when I said that, I saw it written in Distort magazine. Nothing I say is original or means anything, so by all means start your own band. It was easy, it was cheap, go and do it. Then realise just because you own a DIY comp and an Oh Sees CD, doesn't mean you're any good. As you can probably see from the questions so far, your Facebook page didn't say much about you beyond everyone in the band being called Kurt. Why don’t you tell us about yourself?
Kurt: 19, plays drums. Lives in Geelong, goes for the Cats. Sings in Living Eyes and runs Anti Fade Records.
Kurt: 24, plays keyboard. Lives in Geelong, goes for North Sydney Bears. Plays in Frowning Clouds, Hierophants and Leather Towel.
Kurt: 27, plays bass. Lives in Northcote, goes for Wellington Hurricanes. Plays in The Bonniwells.
Kurt: 21, plays guitar. Lives in North Melbourne. Goes for Canberra Raiders. Formerly of Eye Gouge fame. We're just regular dudes. That's a lot of Kurts, were you all named after the same guy?
**Kurt on drums is named after Kurt Russell. Kurt on keaboards is named after *Kurt Vonnegut and the other two are named after* Kurt Cobain.** That is quite a pile of namesakes, and a bit to live up too. Are you excited about showing up what you've got at the show?
Yeah. We're grinning like a shot fox. Dunno where it is though. Have you played with Straight Arrows and Bitch Prefect before?
Played with Straight Arrows a bunch, played with Peak Twins and Old Mate, but never Bitch Prefect, grinning like a shot fox though. Cool. Everybody’s grinning. You guys get pretty loose when you perform, you bringing a bunch of mates to get it going?
They're all lazy and from Geelong. If we give them door spots they might come. Good mates. Finally, in the spirit of Melbourne Music Week, what local bands are you guys excited about at the moment?
All the ones mentioned above. Nun, Towelheads, Today Tonight, Multiple Man, Kremlings, Housewives and UV Race are also good.
