Rising London Outfit Little Cub Turn in a Low-Riding Remix of Their Debut Single, "Loveless"

Their debut release on Domino is a late-night lament, perfect for long journeys back from house parties.

We don't get to write about bands too often on THUMP, because very few of them realise just how markedly their music would be improved by a few 808s and a kick drum. Thankfully, London outfit Little Cub—about to release their debut single on Domino—have got the right idea and are delivering their EP alongside a series of remixes of their own making.

"Loveless" is a snarling, late-night lament, custom built for lonely walks back from house parties and bouts of needless self-reflection. Chiefly, Little Cub seem to be concerned with making a very particular type of British suburban pop music—two parts Pet Shop Boys, one part Wild Beasts—and the mix we're premiering on THUMP today is a surefire sign of the sultry, rain-sodden stall they are setting out for themselves. The "Wake Up Jack" edit of the track gives a floor-ready bite to the original song, pitching the vocals down and darkening the tone significantly. The band have got a track record for electronic collaborations, having previously worked with the likes of George Fitzgerald and Lil Silva, but based on this offering, we'd have to say they are more than equipped on their own.

Little Cub play Electrowerkz in London on the 15th of November.
