Crate Expectations: Nadastrom

Nadastrom gets down to Hot Natured and The Peanuts theme song.

DJs and producers are normal people too (well, sort of), and they have specific songs tied to special events throughout their lives. This week, Nadastrom extracts a playlist from their memories to tell their story.

What's the first song you ever loved?
Dave Nada: First song I loved so much was Doug E. Fresh's "Keep Risin' To The Top," during the summer of '88. First time I heard it was at the community pool in my neighborhood. I was hooked!

Matt Nordstrom: Mine was Herbie Hancock's "Rockit" and George Kranz's "Trommeltanz," aka "Din Daa Daa."

What are the first two songs you ever mixed together?
DN: The Beatnuts' "Off The Books" and Big Pun's "I'm Not A Player" were the first two songs I tried to properly mix.

MN:Probably that Aphrodite Pharcyde thing (I can't remember the name) into something equally jump up-esque.

What's your worst guilty pleasure song?
DN: Peter Cetera's "The Glory Of Love"

MN: Probably Hard Fi's "Hard To Beat (Axwell Remix)

What song have you had on repeat in the past month?
DN: Waze and Odyssey - "Bump and Grind".

MN: The Peanuts theme song by the Vince Guaraldi Trio. It's pretty awesome. I'm even learning it on the piano.

Which track of your own do you like the most?
DN: Oof, that's very tough. But judging from my iTunes play count, it's looking like Nadastrom's "Theo" is winning.

MN: Damn! Dave took my answer! Runner-ups: our remixes of Melé's "Bombay" and The Glass' "Wanna Be Dancin'."

Which track of your own do you hate the most?
DN: I don't hate any of my tracks, but if I had to choose one track that bugs me a little, it would be Dave Nada's "Where Brooklyn At." I made a housier version that never got released. Should've gone with that I think, hah.

MN: Probably Nadastrom's "Ritalin." I love certain things about that record, but as a whole it is definitely lacking.

What's the last song you want to hear before the lights go on?
DN: Massive Attack's "Paradise Circus (Gui Boratto Remix)"

MN: This might be a bit cliche, but "Benediction" by Hot Natured featuring Ali Love.
